Our Mission

Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre (OPSMC) will provide world class sports medicine care for everyone, from the elite athlete to members of the general public, enabling each individual to return to their desired activity as soon as injury or illness permits.

Background:

Since 1987 OPSMC has been providing active Australians with Melbourne's leading sports medicine practitioners.   In 1997, a second clinic, Albert Park Sports Medicine Centre (APSMC) opened at the new Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) at Albert Park. In response to a need for further growth, this clinic was relocated during early 2008 to become the East Melbourne Campus, now situated within Mercy Private Hospital's St Francis Building complex.

OPSMC is a multidisciplinary sports medicine clinic now consisting of two campuses, Olympic Park and East Melbourne, ideally situated in the sports and entertainment precincts of Melbourne.

OPSMC assist all athletes, from the local footy team, MSAC swimmer or to the Commonwealth and Olympic athlete, by providing expertise in preventing and managing injury and illness.

Our practitioners assist:

  • active individuals
  • elite athletes
  • teams, coaches and training staff
  • children and parents
  • employers and employees
  • non-sporting individuals
  • people with disabilities

Our Expertise

The team of practitioners at OPSMC offer their expertise in preventing and managing injuries specific to each sport.

Through research, education and team associations, our practitioners have developed an understanding of the demands of specific activities. This allows them to assist in maintaining and improving your performance. Their experience enables them to identify risk factors and provide advice and corrections if required.

Management may include:

  • assessment of your movement, including video analysis
  • assessment of your equipment e.g. bikes, football boots
  • exercise programs for stretching, strengthening and flexibility
  • consideration of medical related conditions such as asthma or diabetes
  • advice on lifestyle requirements such as nutritional or psychological guidance.

OPSMC provides expert sports physicians, physiotherapy, clinical pilates, podiatry, soft tissue therapy, sports psychology, nutrition and orthopaedic (surgical) services.

The practices have grown from having a few practitioners to now boasting approximately 55 across both locations, with each individual practitioner specializing in a field they love and for which they can offer a unique level of expertise and knowledge.
