Orthopaedic Surgery

M

The Orthopaedic Surgeons who consult at OPSMC in Melbourne all have extensive experience and a special interest in sports injuries and offer a range of specialties.

All our visiting Orthopaedic Surgeons are Fellows of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and have completed their Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery. They all operate in Private Hospitals locally and regularly operate on elite sportsmen and women. They work closely with our Sport and Exercise Physicians, Sport and Exercise Medicine Registrars and Physiotherapists in managing injuries and their rehabilitation.

HOW WE CAN HELP YOU:

Our Sport and Exercise Physicians can facilitate express referral to our visiting Orthopaedic Surgeons, as they can determine whether your injury is indeed in need of of a surgical opinion and/or surgery. Often many injuries can benefit from a trail of conservative management with the appropriate strengthening and reloading program. This can often spare you from surgery and often deliver similar, if not better longer term results.

OPSMC offers Orthopaedic Surgery at our Olympic Park Campus.

The Orthopaedic Surgeons consulting at OPSMC are:

Jason Harvey – hand and wrist

Hayden Morris – knee

Rohan Price – knee and shoulder

Phong Tran – hip

Tim Whitehead – knee

Frequently Asked Questions

01

Do I need a referral?

A referral from a doctor is essential before seeing our surgeons and often it is most efficient and appropriate to see a Sport and Exercise Physician or SEM Registrar here at OPMSC first to arrange this.

02

What do I need to bring?

  • ALL previous imaging (films and reports) relevant to your presenting condition
  • Any referrals from your GP and other treating practitioners
  • Comfortable clothes to change into should you need to be examined by your doctor
03

How long will the session take?

Initial consultations are generally 20-30 minutes in duration. Review consultations generally take 10-15 minutes, but these are at the discretion of your specialist.

04

Can I get a rebate?

All consultations are Medicare rebateable provided you have a valid GP or specialist medical referral. It is up to the patient to ensure their current referral is up to date.

05

Is this service covered by Private Health Insurance?

Consultations with our Orthopaedic Surgeons are not eligible for rebates through your Private Health Insurance. Should surgery be required and it be performed in a private hospital, you may be eligible for a rebate through your Private Health Insurer. You should check this with your Surgeon and Private Insurer, should your condition require surgery.

06

Can an Orthopaedic Surgeon refer me for a rebateable MRI Scan?

Your Orthopaedic Surgeon can refer you for a rebateable MRI scan. This can often be arranged by your Sport and Exercise Physician prior to your referral on for an appointment with one of our Orthopaedic Surgeons.
