Dr Euahna Varigos E-mail

Dr Varigos is a specialist anaesthetist with a fellowship in medical acupuncture.

She studied medicine at the University of Melbourne and then obtained her fellowship in Anaesthetics having worked in Melbourne and the UK.

After ten years in private anaesthetic practice she became interested in the management of pain, more specifically with methods minimising the use of medications. This led to her studying medical acupuncture with the Medical Acupuncture Society and being awarded the John Woodley Prize for the diploma, gaining the fellowship from the Medical Acupuncture College. In 1997 she studied acupuncture in China.

Dr Varigos has been passionately involved in the use of acupuncture as an effective treatment of many medical conditions for more than 15 years. These include:

  • Headache, e.g. migraine, stress and tension headaches
  • Muscular and skeletal injuries and sports injuries
  • Women's health, including pelvic pain, endometriosis, dysmennorhea
  • Stress related conditions
  • Pain syndromes, post-surgical pain relief and recovery.

More recently she has observed that acupuncture is very effective in reducing swelling in the acute injury and post-operative period. This helps with pain management and the early stages of rehabilitation.

With Dr Varigos' anaesthetic specialty training and involvement in International workshops, she has the advantage of utilising specific anaesthetic and Radio Frequency Blocks to help patients with very severe pain and nerve entrapment syndromes, including post-surgical neuromas.

Having attended many complementary meetings and nutritional medicine courses, she also understands the importance of diet, exercise, sleep and meditation in the maintenance of good health and is also able to assist her patients in these matters.
