Bio

Paul Blackman gained fellowship of the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians in 1996, winning the college medal for the best candidate.  He has extensive experience in Australian Rules football, working with North Melbourne and Richmond, then as Chief Medical Officer at Collingwood from 1997 to 2010 and Melbourne from 2013 to 2017.  Paul also has interests in athletics and is currently Chief Medical Officer for the Australian track and field team. Other team attachments have included the Australian Socceroos, Judo Victoria, Swimming Victoria, and the Victorian Weightlifting Federation.

Paul has particular expertise in ultrasound-guided procedures such as shoulder hydrodilatation and hip-joint injection, in addition, to exercise-induced leg pain, knee, shoulder, and hip/groin pain.

Paul is currently on the Board of Censors at the Australasian College of Sports and Exercise Physicians and is actively involved with registrar training through OPSMC.

Melbourne Campus Fee Statement

A referral from a general or specialist medical practitioner is required to see Dr Blackman. The cost of an initial consultation with Dr Blackman may be up to $280 and patients may be eligible for a Medicare rebate of $76.80. The cost of a review consultation with Dr Blackman may be up to $170 and patients may receive a Medicare rebate of $38.60. Initial consultations are generally booked as 40 minute appointments with review consultations 20 minutes unless otherwise specified by Dr Blackman in discussion with the patient. Please note that in addition to the charges already mentioned additional fees may apply, for example, for ultrasound, an injection, compartment pressure testing, the use of iontophoresis, Shockwave Therapy or if there is a further review consultation on the same day. These additional fees may, in some cases, attract a Medicare rebate. Payment of all fees is required on the same day as the appointment. Please note that private health insurance does not cover out of hospital medical fees. For further information about fees and charges please contact OPSMC on 1300 859 887.
